The deputy head of interim government in Kyrgyzstan, Omurbek Tekebaev, announced on Thursday that the draft of a new draft constitution would be opened to public consultation on Sunday, and a referendum on the document would be held on June 27, followed by parliamentary elections on October 10.

Citing Tekebaev, Kommersant reported that the new constitution would turn Kyrgyzstan into a parliamentary republic, with the role of the president reduced and impeachment procedures simplified.

The respected business daily said the upcoming elections were hard to assess because it is not clear yet whether the president will be elected by the people or parliament. Another deputy prime minister in the interim government, acting prosecutor Azimbek Beknazarov, told Kommersant that the issue would be discussed by the constitutional council that is due to be formed by Sunday.
