Lyubov Ivanova said Kanybek Zhoroyev was detained and charged after voluntarily turning himself in to the authorities on Thursday in order to help the investigation into the violent unrest in early April that swept Bakiyev from power.
"He was arrested for one month and charged under Article 304 of the Criminal Code, abuse of power," the lawyer said, adding that the defense would seek to change the terms of his pre-trial detention.
Zhoroyev is being held in the pre-trial detention facility of Kyrgyzstan"s National Security Service, 24.kg reported.
His arrest continues the interim government"s efforts to bring members of Bakiyev"s inner circle to justice over the clashes in Bishkek between armed protesters and security services that killed more than 80 people.
Bakiyev fled the capital on April 7 as the opposition took power and has taken refuge in Belarus. He and several family members have been charged over the violence and with corruption following opposition
